Si può fare (We Can Do That)

"Si può fare (We Can Do That)"(2008/Italy)
Synopsis
Nello (Claudio Bisio) is an out of work former trade unionist who has been sent to run a cooperative of mental patients who were released from Italy's psychiatric hospitals when the government closed the hospitals down under the 1980's Basaglia Law.
Nello doesn't like the over medicated clients way of life at the cooperative and he seeks to find a more beneficial life for them and possibly learn a profession to suit their capabilities. By chance, two of the clients Gigio (Andrea Bosca) and Luca (Giovanni Calcagno) show an unusual and individualistic and artistic aptitude for installing parquet flooring. This leads to the rest of the former patients at the co-op forming a flooring company with high end clientèle and Nello coordinating the operation by assigning work roles within the company that suits each worker the best.

I am surprised that there are no goverment psychiatric hospitals under the law in Italy but I think freedom is better for mental patients rather than locking them up. Freedom is a kind of treatment. But actually it is not easy to get a job and to live on their own.
In this movie, two patients have a good talent. I heard that, sometimes, a mental patients have artistic talents. In fact, there are many artists with mental illness. I think they are so sensitive that's why they can create artistic work.  In this story, Luka was so sensitive and as a result he disappointed a women he loved. In my opinion, they should be accepted into society with our warm heart.
A theme of Italian movie is so surrealistic but it is very cheerful and  it makes me happy. People living in Italy are very positive in their lives. In other words, they may be too optimistic. But I like Italian lifestyle in this movie. This movie is also one of my favorite.

My rating:★★★★
